If you are a frugal shopper, you are probably familiar with Dollar General. There are ways to save additional money when shopping at DG to help stretch your dollar.
Coupons to Save at Dollar General
The first and easiest way to save money at Dollar General is to take advantage of those $5.00 off coupons at the bottom of your receipt. Usually, they require that you come back on a Saturday to use them. As I type this the current deal is $5.00 off $25.00. That is 20% off the already low prices. You can checkout with $5.00 off $25.00 coupons as many times as you like on Saturdays. There is no limit to the number of times you can use this coupon. The Dollar General website has a code each Saturday that they are offering $5.00 off that you can use to shop online as well. You can get free shipping on orders over $40.00 also using a code that is usually available on the website. Today, it is FREESHIP. When you order online, you will pay tax and the prices are usually a bit higher online that they are for me locally. Each area is different. Check out the prices for yourself and see if shopping online can save you money.
In addition to the $5.00 for $25.00 coupon, you can use a survey coupon to save more money. On the bottom of your receipt, you will see a survey code. Go to DGcustomerfirst.com and answer a few questions about your shopping trip. You will need to enter the time and date of your shopping trip, so be sure to keep the receipt that goes along with the survey code until you are ready to answer the questions. After filling in the survey, you will get a coupon emailed to you for $3.00 off a purchase of $15.00. These can be used in addition to the $5/$25 coupon. Be sure the cashier enters the survey coupon last and if it doesn't scan, ask the cashier to type it in manually. $3.00 off of $15.00 is 20% off, but if you are checking out with $25.00 worth of goods, this is an additional 12% off. You will pay only $17 for $25 worth of merchandise using both coupons.
Apps to Save Money at Dollar General
Any manufacturer coupons you can use save more money. Just be sure that when you are checking out, your total after coupons is $25. Download the Dollar General App for easy to access manufacturer coupons! I select ALL the coupons available each Saturday before I shop. Then at the register, I simply type in my phone number to get instant savings. The coupons available in the DG app are manufacturer coupons, so you can't use them in combination with paper manufacturer coupons for the same item.
You can also use manufacturer coupons from the newspaper at DG, or print them from the Coupons.com app. Coupons.com is a searchable database of coupons that makes finding the right one very easy.
Krazy Coupon Lady also has a coupon search feature within the app that allows you to find
manufacturer coupons for almost anything. If you prefer brand name items, this app is a must have.
Rebates to Save Money at Dollar General
Use a cash back rebate card to pay for your purchase. This can save an additional 1 to 5% off your total depending on your card.
Before you go shopping, use an Ibotta AND Checkout 51 app to get rebates on your purchase. Simply, select Dollar General as your store, then select the items that you plan to purchase. Be sure to buy the right size and number of the item. When you are done shopping, scan your receipt and you can get cash back for these items through the Ibotta and Checkout 51 apps. I received $24.58 from Ibotta via PayPal within 2 weeks of downloading the app. Both these apps offer rebates for fresh produce, dairy and meats purchased each week, so don't worry that you will only get cash back for packaged food. Both apps offer healthier options for weekly rebates on your groceries. Of course, you don't have to do all your shopping at Dollar General either. These apps offer rebates for many other stores.
Try the Shopkick app to get "kicks," or points redeemable as cash, for entering selected DG stores, scanning items of the shelf, or purchasing weekly items.
Use the Receipt Hog and FetchRewards (referral code W1RGG) apps to collect a few cents for each receipt. Just scan the receipts after shopping. This may seem like too much trouble for approximately 5 cents a receipt, but I find it keeps an electronic trail of my purchases which comes in handy without having to save the paper receipts. The electronic versions are accessible in the apps after scanning them.
Buying groceries and other household items at Dollar General each week can save you money, because they have lower prices than most grocery stores. By stocking up on sale items and using the coupons, apps and rebates listed above, you can also slash your previous budget in half.
